Corporate Pedometer Challenge kicks off

Registrations are now open for the Greater Shepparton 2017 Corporate Pedometer Challenge. A partnership between Greater Shepparton City Council, GV Health, Shepparton Retirement Villages and Family Care, the challenge will officially kick off on Monday 2 October 2017, raising funds for charities whilst getting people active.

Upon registration, this year participants can select one of three charities to donate their entry fee to, including GV Health, Shepparton Retirement Villages and Sporting Chance, a partnership program from Greater Shepparton City Council and Family Care.

Last year a total of 1,080 people signed up to take part in the challenge, resulting in $16,911 of raised funds being donated to The Community Fund, Shepparton Villages and GV Health.

There will be weekly prizes for teams leading the challenge with the most amounts of steps clocked, and the organisation with the most steps clocked in their name at the end of the challenge will win the Corporate Challenge Cup.

Greater Shepparton City Council Chief Executive Officer Peter Harriott encouraged businesses to get on board and sign up.

“The challenge is a great way for people to get active as well as give back to their community via their entry fee,” Mr Harriott said.

Shepparton Villages Chief Executive Officer Kerri Rivett said the challenge is all about keeping people fit and healthy for life.

“Our staff loved being involved in last year’s challenge and saw great on going benefits from this community challenge.”

GV Health Chief Executive Officer, Trevor Saunders said GV Health encourages its staff and the community to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“I encourage all staff to take on this fun challenge to increase activity levels and use it as a motivator for improved health benefits,” said Mr Saunders.

The challenge will run until 29 October 2017, with each organisation coordinating separate events to get participants active and increase their step counts.
