Demolition to begin on Queens Garden’s toilets

Work to demolish the old brick toilets in the Queens Gardens will commence this week as outlined in the Queens Gardens masterplan.

A planning permit was approved in July 2015 to allow the demolition of the toilets to occur.

Greater Shepparton Director Infrastructure Steve Bowmaker said the demolition of the brick toilets was outlined in the Queens Gardens masterplan, which was adopted in 2010.

“A planning permit was required to allow the demolition to go ahead and this was approved by Council in July,” Mr Bowmaker said.

“Council recognises the feedback received in relation to the planning permit notification. A 10 year development plan for public toilets in the municipality identified these toilets as surplus to requirements, whilst other public toilets are being constructed as part of the 10 year plan.”

“Demolishing these toilets allows us to continue to develop the Queens Gardens in accordance with the approved masterplan.”

Demolition works are expected to take three weeks. Patrons are advised to take care around the work site and adhere to signage. Public toilets are located on the Welsford Street side of the Queens Gardens.
