Greater Shepparton City Council congratulates the residents on the success of “Detox Your Home”. The event was held on Saturday 6 October at the Shepparton Resource Recovery Centre in partnership with Sustainability Victoria.
This year’s “Detox Your Home” was the third biggest turnout in 20 years with 112 vehicles in attendance to dispose of common, highly toxic household chemicals without harming their health or the environment.
Waste Education Officer Jan Braham was present, handing out information about the use of the kerbside collection bins and alternatives for disposal of a range of household items. Jan advised the residents attending that they can deposit batteries, paint and fluorescent lights tubes free of charge at all three Resource Recovery Centres in the Greater Shepparton City Council.
Detox your Home is administered by Sustainability Victoria in partnership with local governments and is funded by the Victorian landfill levy. The products collected are recycled for recovery and diverted from landfill.
Less toxic items – paint, household batteries and compact fluorescent lamps – can be disposed of throughout the year at a permanent drop-off site including at the Shepparton Resource Recovery Centre.
