As part of Activities in the Park, RiverConnect and Greater Shepparton City Council in conjunction with the Cussen Park Advisory Committee are holding an interactive, Bats in Our Neighbourhood, event on Saturday 13 April from 5:00pm at Cussen Park, Tatura.
Attendees will learn about bat behaviour, colony conservation and public health and safety from expert presenters including urban ecologist Rob Gration, Friends of Bats and Bushcare President Lawrence Pope and Shepparton Veterinary Clinic veterinarian Madeleine Rowe.
This is a free family friendly event where children will enjoy bat related activities and view local microbats up close. The group will share a pizza dinner while watching the grey-headed flying foxes fly out at dusk.
RiverConnect’s Project Officer Meg Pethybridge encouraged everyone in the community to come along.
“This is a great school holiday activity for kids and an opportunity for locals to ask our expert presenters their questions about these important pollinators,” Ms Pethybridge said.
“Grey-headed flying foxes are a hidden creature in the environment, playing an important part in the eco-system which many people would not be aware of.”
All activities commence at the rotunda at Ross Street park entrance. Bookings must be made by Saturday 6 April 2019, please contact RiverConnect on riverconnect@shepparton.vic.gov.au or 5832 9700.
