Greater Shepparton City Council and partners will hold a free screening of the hybrid feature documentary 2040 on Thursday 27 February, educating the community on the importance of looking after the planet.
The documentary sees award-winning director Damon Gameau explore what the future could look like by 2040 if the best solutions already available are embraced to improve the planet.
The film is structured as a visual letter to his four-year-old daughter and includes high-end visual effects, addressing the issues our planet is currently facing.
The Greater Shepparton screening of the documentary will be held at KidsTown Adventure Playground.
The evening will kick-off with free interactive games, activities, information stalls and a barbecue at 7pm, all tailored at preserving the planet.
Greater Shepparton City Council CEO Peter Harriott will speak to those in attendance about what Council is doing to improve the future of our planet, before the film begins at 8.45pm.
Mr Harriott encouraged residents to attend and bring their family and friends, to see what can be done to improve the future for our planet.
“This feature documentary outlines the opportunities we have, right now, to create a better planet by 2040,” he said.
“Simple and small changes can be made to our everyday lives that can make a large impact in setting up a brighter future for us all.
“I encourage our local residents to attend this screening, and really think about the changes they can make to make what we will see in the movie a possibility by 2040.”
Year 9 students at Greater Shepparton Secondary College will also take part in driving toward a better planet by 2040, with My 2040: Saving the Planet included in the curriculum.
This screening is sponsored by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s Climate Ready Hume Project.
