Greater Shepparton’s Women’s Charter Alliance Advisory Committee will host a free movie night on Wednesday 18 June as part of Refugee Week.
The Women’s Charter Alliance will host the movie Wadjada, the story of a 10 year old Saudi Arabian girl who desperately wants a bicycle of her own. This is the first feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia and is the first feature length film made by a female Saudi director.
Women’s Charter Alliance member Kate Montgomery said “we are encouraging everybody – not just women - to come to this evening to learn more about what women in other cultures experience around the world”.
“This will be a great night out and a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a free night of networking, food, and an inspirational movie” said Ms Montgomery.
The Women’s Charter Alliance Committee is a community advisory committee of the Greater Shepparton City Council established in 2011 which is part of a broader network of LGA advisory committees across the state that are guided and informed by the Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter.
The Charter recognises the need to increase women’s participation in the key decision making forums in the community and in democratic governance. The Women’s Charter Alliance is a mainly volunteer group who are dedicated to promoting and supporting women, particularly in the areas of gender equity, diversity, and active citizenship. They are particularly pleased to be able to present this movie during Refugee Week.
“This is a free event and we are looking forward to a great night out. Pre movie halal nibbles and snacks are available and the candy bar will be open. There are a limited number of seats, so please book prior to the event by contacting Greater Shepparton City Council” said Ms Montgomery.
