Grand Launch of the Aboriginal Street Art Project

Greater Shepparton City Council in partnership with Rumbalara Co-Operative and Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation is holding the Grand Launch of the Aboriginal Street Art Project on Tuesday 23 May 2017 at 11:30 am.

The launch will take place at the location of the first mural which features both Sir Douglas Nicholls and William Cooper. The first mural is located at the Goulburn Valley Water wall on Fryers Street, Shepparton (104-110 Fryers St, Shepparton).

The Aboriginal Street Art Project will feature a series of murals throughout the CBD that will be dedicated to recognising the local Aboriginal people and the Aboriginal Culture and History within the region.

The second stage of this project is to recognise two significant local Aboriginal females that will be selected by the local Aboriginal Elders. Both females will be announced later in the year.

The project will then proceed to recognise additional significant local Aboriginal people and will also include Aboriginal themed traditional and contemporary art.

The Grand Launch on 23 May 2017 will feature:

  • Welcome to Country
  • Smoking Ceremony
  • Didgeridoo Ceremony
  • Singing performance by Lilly Walker
  • Mayor to speak
  • Nathan Lovett-Murray to deliver speech about Sir Douglas Nicholls
  • Leonie Drummond to deliver speech about William Cooper
  • Aboriginal girls dance group performance – Wannik Dancers
