The Annual Best Start Book Drive doubled their donations from their initial launch in 2021, with close to 1,000 quality children’s board and picture books donated during the collection period from 24 August to 2 September 2022 that coincided with Book Week.
Many thanks to everyone who donated their pre-loved books so they can be shared and enjoyed by other children.
Best Start is a State Government early intervention initiative that aims to improve the health, development, learning and wellbeing of all Victorian children from birth through to transition to school.
Language and literacy skill development is a particular focus as reading promotes brain development, imagination, language and emotional development. Having a regular supply of books supports children’s growth in this area.
Books that were donated by the community will be used in playgroups within the Greater Shepparton region, added in waiting rooms such as Immunisation Clinics and Maternal and Child Health Centres, and used for the School Community Libraries program.
Donations from the community of any unwanted, good quality children’s books are accepted throughout the year, if you have any donations please email belinda.schmedje@shepparton.vic.gov.au.
