Greater Shepparton City Council will celebrate International Day of People with Disability with a concert and the launch of the 'Promoting Greater Access in Greater Shepparton' access guide.
In Summary
On Monday 25 November, the award-winning band Gerry’s Well Oiled Machine comprised of musicians with neurodiverse and physical disabilities, will visit local disability agencies across Greater Shepparton to run song writing workshops. During these sessions, participants will collaborate with the band to create a song, which they will have the opportunity to perform at a concert the following day.
The concert will take place at 12.30pm on Tuesday 26 November at the Shepparton Sports Precinct Main Pavilion. Tickets are $5 and can be reserved via the Riverlinks website, or by calling 5832 9511.
On Tuesday 3 December, Council will launch the 'Promoting Greater Access in Greater Shepparton' access guide to mark International Day of People with Disability. The access guide is an action of the Greater Shepparton Universal Access and Inclusion Plan and will provide local businesses and community groups with simple advice, resources and tips as to how to increase accessibility for all within their business or event.
Council’s Director Community, Louise Mitchell, said Council were pleased to work with local partners to deliver this year’s celebrations.
“This year’s events are an exciting opportunity for our community to come together to break down barriers and promote access and inclusion. We hope the concert will empower individuals living with disability to create, entertain and showcase their talents,” she said.
“The launch of the 'Promoting Greater Access in Greater Shepparton' access guide is a significant step in ensuring local businesses and community groups have the tools they need to improve accessibility."
