Help us plant One Tree per Child across Greater Shepparton

Greater Shepparton City Council has commenced its involvement in the One Tree per Child community planting initiative.

For the last 5 months, Council has been partnering with the community to plant a native tree or shrub for each person aged under 18 in Greater Shepparton by the end of August 2017.

That’s 16,664 plants.

Council aimed to plant 5,000 plants by the end of the 2016 planting season and the remaining 11,664 plants will be planted in 2017.

During the 2016 planting season, Greater Shepparton City Council partnered with the following groups to improve the local environment.

  • 12 Primary Schools
  • 7 Secondary Schools
  • 8 Community Groups
  • 6 Kindergartens/Childcare Centers
  • 2 Tertiary institutions and
  • 2 Libraries

Council’s community planting day in August was a great success, with 136 community members planting 1,254 indigenous plants.

Greater Shepparton City Council has achieved their One Tree per Child targets for 2016, and it is now time to start planning for 2017.

Community partnerships are vital to ensure that Council meet their One Tree per Child planting goals.

Everyone interested including Local schools, childcare centers, LandCare groups, businesses and community groups are encouraged to contact Council to share their ideas on how they can partner together in 2017, working together to achieve the objectives of the One Tree per Child Project and make Greater Shepparton a cleaner, greener community.

Please contact Greater Shepparton City Council on 5832 9700 to discuss this exciting project further and get involved.
