Greater Shepparton City Council Wetlands team have recently installed crates in the wetland area of Victoria Park Lake.
The team are trialling this new method to help protect the aquatic plants from birds, until the plants are more established.
Previous methods such as netting off the plants have not been as successful due to ducks, swans and pelicans trying to roost on the new plants, therefore making the netting ineffective to allow the plants to establish.
