Shepparton hosted an Inland Rail Forum to provide business and industry leaders with the opportunity to be updated on the progress of the project.
This forum was an opportunity to provide a presentation to attendees on the merits of each of the two routes that have been evaluated - the Albury/Wagga Wagga route and the 'Foodbowl' route passing through Shepparton.
In attendance were National Trunk Rail, transport operators, business and industry representatives, Food Bowl Inland Rail CEO's and Mayors, and some Federal candidates for Murray.
The Federal Government allocated $594 million towards research and land acquisition for an inland rail network connecting Brisbane to Melbourne.
"With the recent decision to have the Department of Finance oversee market testing to assess the private sector's interest in delivering and financing the inland rail project, this nation building project is gathering momentum and community interest is high," said Greater Shepparton City Council Manager Economic Development Geraldine Christou.
"The Forum discussed how we as a community can have input and leverage from this significant development," said Ms Christou.
