KidsTown future improvements to begin
Posted on
Wednesday 4th of February, 2026,
Greater Shepparton City Council is advising the community that future improvement works will now begin at KidsTown Adventure Playground, located on the Midland Highway (Causeway) in Mooroopna.
In Summary
KidsTown Adventure Playground will temporarily close from Monday 16 February to Sunday 8 March 2026 to allow remediation works in preparation for future improvements.
The three‑week closure is required for safety, with heavy machinery and excavation works underway across the site.
A small number of commemorative pavers will be impacted and will be carefully reinstated in an alternative location within KidsTown.
The works form an early step toward the KidsTown Master Plan, with interim infrastructure to be installed based on previous community input and retained as part of the future site.
This will require temporary closure for three weeks, from Monday 16 February to Sunday 8 March 2026, to enable remediation works to prepare the site for future improvements. During this period, heavy machinery and excavation will be in use, making it necessary for the entire facility to be closed to ensure the safety of visitors and contractors.
Council’s Acting Director Infrastructure, Janelle Bunfield, said the closure was an important step in readying KidsTown for the Master Plan consultation and concept phase.
“KidsTown is a much-loved community destination, and it is important we carry out these works in a way that is safe for both visitors and contractors,” she said.
“These works allow us to safely remove ageing infrastructure and prepare the site for future upgrades. To ensure the space remains welcoming and usable, new infrastructure will be installed. This infrastructure has been informed by ideas shared through community consultation and will remain in place as part of KidsTown once the Master Plan is implemented.”
Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, thanked the community for their understanding during the temporary closure.
“We know KidsTown holds a special place for many families across Greater Shepparton. This short-term closure is a necessary step towards securing the future of KidsTown, and we appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while the works are underway,” he said.
“This forms the initial step in us working towards the final Master Plan for KidsTown, which will be developed in close consultation with our community.”
Council recognises the significance of the KidsTown pavers to the community. Only a small number of pavers will be affected by the works, and these will be carefully reinstated in an alternative location along the path at KidsTown.
During the closure period, the entire facility will be fenced and closed to the public. The community is asked to observe all signage and remain clear of the site for their own safety.
KidsTown is expected to reopen following the completion of works and final safety inspections. Any changes to the program will be communicated through Council’s usual channels.
