Greater Shepparton City Council advises parents and guardians that kindergarten and pre-kindergarten registrations for 2021 are open.
Council encourages residents to use the online form on Council’s website to register.
Council also reminds residents the Victorian Government funds one year of kindergarten (year before school) for each eligible child.
Kindergarten registrations for the Greater Shepparton area closes 31 August 2020, while pre-kindergarten for Council services will close 30 September 2020.
Council Acting Manager Children and Youth Services Jackie Vibert said the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten years are crucial steps in a child’s development and learning process.
"Both pre-kindergarten and kindergarten bring new challenges, educational learning opportunities, lots of fun and interaction with other children and adults in a play-based environment," Ms Vibert said.
"Both programs allow flexibility to reflect your child's individual needs and allow children to develop their skills at their own pace.”
Council would usually encourage residents to visit local kindergartens prior to registration; however, with COVID-19 restrictions in place, other avenues have to be considered.
"We encourage parents to visit Council’s website for any information they need. We also welcome any phone calls to talk through the process with parents and answer any questions they may have,” Ms Vibert said.
“It’s important to find a centre that offers a program that suits your family’s needs.
"While we try to accommodate requests for particular centres, this is not always possible, so if parents don't receive a place at the centre of their first preference they can accept a place at an alternative centre or wait and see if a space at their preferred centre becomes available.”
Council facilitates kindergarten registration for most funded kindergarten programs in Greater Shepparton.
Registration forms are available on Council’s website here.
