Stage 1 of the New Dookie Road and Wheeler Street construction works is nearing completion, with Stage 2 commencing today, Monday 27 March, along the north side of New Dookie Road.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane during the works with the use of temporary traffic lights in place for motorists.
Access into Wheeler Street from New Dookie Road will be permitted, however there will be no access from Wheeler Street to New Dookie Road.
The Ash Street and New Dookie Road intersection will now be closed until works are completed. Please refer to the traffic diversion plan included below for further detail.
The project is expected to be completed by the start of May 2023. Once completed, the project will see the upgrade of the existing intersection to a signalised “T”-intersection, with works involving the reconstruction of road pavement designed for heavy vehicle traffic, dedicated slip and turning lanes, traffic signals, controlled pedestrian crossings, improved street lighting and extension to the shared path network linking to Verney Road.
Businesses, residents, visitors and motorists are reminded to obey all roadwork and advisory signage and to be aware of traffic detours. Council encourages the use of alternate routes during this time where possible and asks everyone to be mindful of their safety and the safety of others.
