Greater Shepparton Deputy Mayor Kim O’Keeffe officially opened the new Katandra West Community Centre yesterday.
A community centre was deemed a priority in Council’s Katandra West Recreation Reserve Masterplan and Katandra West Community Plan, and support for the new centre has been strong from the Katandra community since.
The $1.4 million building has been funded by the State Government’s Regional Development Victoria fund contributing $500,000, Greater Shepparton City Council contributing $800,000 and Katandra West Community Facilities Committee of Management fundraising over $100,000 towards the project.
The new facility includes a function and meeting room, commercial kitchen with cool room, bar facilities, umpire change rooms, female change rooms and all abilities toilet facilities.
Greater Shepparton Deputy Mayor Kim O’Keeffe was pleased to be the one to open the new facility.
“The new centre will be of great benefit to the Katandra community and a number of user groups including Katandra Kats Football and Netball Club, local cricket and tennis clubs, the Country Women’s Association, the CFA, Girl Guides and Katandra West Primary School.”
“I congratulate all involved in bringing this new facility to fruition and this is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when a community truly comes together,” said Cr O’Keeffe.
