Nominations still open for Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee

Greater Shepparton City Council is still welcoming nominations from individuals interested in joining the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee.

The Heritage Advisory Committee advises Council on cultural heritage matters from across Greater Shepparton.

The Committee has representatives from 10 member organisations and Council. It also has a minimum of two and a maximum of six community representative positions for those who are not affiliated with the historical groups or societies nominated to the Committee. The community representative positions are voting members of the Committee and are appointed for a two-year term.

The community representative positions on the Committee became vacant last month and Council is currently seeking members to fill these roles. These appointments will begin in July 2021 and conclude in July 2023.

Mayor, Councillor Kim O’Keeffe encouraged people with an interest in heritage issues across Greater Shepparton to apply.

“I encourage Greater Shepparton locals with an interest in the region’s heritage to put their hands up for one of the community representative positions,” Cr O’Keeffe said.

“It is a fantastic opportunity and involves having a say in the planning and execution of a number of successful community events, including the Heritage Open Days and the Cultural Heritage Awards.”

Committee meetings are held on the first Monday of every month or at other times as determined by members.

Nomination forms can be lodged electronically or by hard copy and are available on Council’s website www.greatershepparton.com.au or in the foyer of Greater Shepparton City Council’s offices at 90 Welsford Street, Shepparton.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, 11 June 2021.

For more information or to register your interest in joining the Committee, please contact the Building Planning and Compliance Department via telephone on (03) 5832 9700 or via e-mail at council@shepparton.vic.gov.au.
