Notre Dame students take out $4,000 #ShepPROUD Video Project

Council congratulates all the entrants of the first Community Fund Goulburn Valley #ShepPROUD Video Project, especially local students Lingraj Harhangi and Sophie Giuliani, who were judged winners of the $4,000 cash prize.

Local youth were encouraged to share their positive experience, or opportunities in Shepparton via video to be in the running for the major prize.

Entry was free and open to 15-25 year olds who live, work or study in the 3630 area, and attracted 17 entries focusing on a variety of topics

The winning entry, "This Is My Town", was presented from the perspective of Lingraj, whose  family came to Shepparton from Mauritius 8 years ago.

The video featured interviews with Shepparton locals, along with some spectacular aerial footage of the city and surround.

The Community Fund Goulburn Valley Chief Executive Officer Cheryl Hammer was impressed by all of the #ShepPROUD entries.

“We are thrilled with the outcome of the whole competition as we have many videos to roll out now to promote #ShepPROUD. Many of these young people will become active ambassadors for what we are calling the #ShepPROUD movement.

“It is uplifting to know many young people love where they live, work and study and happy to express that,” Cheryl said.

The 17 videos entries are all on The Community Fund’s Facebook page and will be used in many venues, in the media and at events over the next 12 months.

The #ShepPROUD project is the first of its kind for The Community Fund whose primary function is to raise funds and identify groups in the local community in need of support through its Grants Allocation process as well as our Social Impact Strategies.

The Community Fund guarantees the funds raised in The Goulburn Valley, stay in the Goulburn Valley, supporting a wide variety of projects, causes and groups, with a real focus on, but not exclusive to, children and early learning opportunities, the disabled, the elderly and struggling families. Many of the groups in need often do not qualify for government support.

The Community Fund is both a fundraiser and a funder and has been active in the Goulburn Valley since 2001. In that time more than $3.5 million has be redistributed back into our community.
