Greater Shepparton City Council will be launching an exciting energy saving initiative at Aquamoves this week, introducing state-of-the-art energy production systems (Co-Gen and Heat Recovery Ventilation System) recently installed at the Council operated facility.
Council’s Director Community Kaye Thomson says the implementation of the cutting-edge technology is already providing the community with significant environmental and financial benefits.
“Council’s vision and one of the challenges of the 21st century is to achieve a greater synergy between technology and the environment,” Ms Thomson said.
“Combined, these projects will generate savings of $70,000 and 800 tonnes of CO² emissions per year. This is the equivalent of removing 168 passenger vehicles from the road and is amongst the biggest CO² saving projects ever delivered by the Council.”
The Co-Gen system is designed to convert natural gas into electricity used to increase the temperature of the pools and pool hall at Aquamoves, whilst the Heat Recovery Ventilation System operates by heating fresh air to a temperature that is comfortable for facility users.
Energy is further saved by recycling, heating and filtering air that is usually wasted and circulating it back through the pool hall. Cold air is also prevented from entering the pool hall by keeping the doors closed and creating an air tight environment that allows the systems to more efficiently maintain a comfortable temperature.
Ms Thomson says the projects are part of Council’s plan to “ensure the environment is a major priority in preparing for the future by implementing renewable energy options and reducing greenhouse emissions.”
