Greater Shepparton City Council has been working with VicRoads and Goulburn Murray Water to improve the black spot bend on Channel Road between Feiglin Road and Doyles Road.
In August 2014 Greater Shepparton City Council was successful receiving $99,912 of funding from the Australian Government National Building Black Spot Progam under the guidance of VicRoads. Applications were for intersections or sections of road with crash histories, and the proposed treatments had to address the type of crashes recorded.
Along Channel Road between Feiglin Road and Doyles Road, there has had been a fatal crash and four casualty crashes over a five year period.
After further consultation between VicRoads, GMR Engineering and Goulburn Valley Water, Council decided the open drain along the south side would be replaced with 600mm pipes and filled in, removing the need for a guardrail. Driveable end-walls were also created to minimise injury for vehicles. Contractors then installed a guardrail on the north side in July this year, with all works now completed.
