Greater Shepparton City Council will be undertaking proactive ribbon weed cutting at Victoria Park Lake from Monday 7 October for a period of two weeks.
During this time the lake will be closed for all public use between the hours of 6am to 6pm, to ensure the maintenance takes place both efficiently and safely.
Surrounding open space areas and playgrounds will remain open and will not be affected by the works.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said the works were part of regular routine maintenance of the area, to ensure it remained a great community facility.
“Council has worked with user groups to advise of the works and minimise interruptions,” Mr Hoare said.
“Ribbon weed will remain in the wetland and other areas for its water treatment properties and to provide habitat.”
The process involves use of an aquatic harvester boat, which cuts the plant below the surface and stores the cut material on board for later disposal.
Some minor offcuts may wash up on banks over the next few days and will be removed by Council.
