Over the last 15 years, RiverConnect has connected thousands of people to our riverine environment through photography, art, educational activities and canoeing. RiverConnect has also been responsible for the extension of the shared paths to the Flats and the bridge over the Broken River.
RiverConnect’s vision is to connect people with our local rivers and wetlands, and the Strategic Plan outlines the priorities and programs to achieve this. The main strategic priorities are:
- Engage the community
- Inspire the education sector
- Improve health and wellbeing
- Enhance accessibility and care of the river environment
- Showcase the river environment
- Nurture partnerships and good governance
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Shane Sali said the region is lucky to have rivers and wetlands on our doorstep providing opportunities to get outside and enjoy our natural environment.
“You can go for a walk along The Flats, canoe on the Goulburn River, bike ride on the Yanha Gurtji shared paths or simply relax with some fishing and enjoy the great outdoors,” he said.
“We want to be able to take full advantage of the value of our river system and the environmental, economic and cultural significance it has. RiverConnect would like your feedback on our Strategic Plan so we know what you would like to see in the future.
“We have an amazing natural resource right here, let’s get out and enjoy it.”
