The Maude Street Bus Interchange, streetscape works and Plaza redevelopment have commenced and Greater Shepparton City Council advises road users that as of Wednesday 15 May, Maude Street between Vaughan and Ashenden Streets will be closed to traffic for the duration of the works. Pedestrian access will also be limited during this period.
The road closure will allow for the construction of a new eight bay bus interchange which will operate on both sides of Maude Street.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said “It’s great to see these works happening, the temporary closure of this section of Maude Street to traffic will allow the contractor to complete the upgrade works in the most efficient way and minimize the construction time. It also assists Council and the contractor to ensure appropriate public safety is maintained during the works.”
“Council has worked closely with emergency services and businesses in the area during the planning of these works”.
Pedestrian access to residences and businesses in the area of the construction works will be maintained at all times.
The on-street parking bays within this section of Maude Street will be removed as part of the works to make way for the bus parking bays, however additional parking bays will be created on Maude Street, north of Vaughan street, in the next stage of the redevelopment project.
The street will be reopened to traffic following the completion of this stage of the construction works, which is scheduled for October 2019.
Council advises commuters to be aware of changes to the traffic flow and pedestrian access and to observe road signage in the area. Please take extra care while travelling in this area and make allowances for potential delays due to the works.
