SCAM ALERT! A warning for all Facebook users.

Stay Smart Online are advising all Facebook users to beware of scams claiming to provide a Facebook ‘dislike’ button.

These scams will enable malicious individuals to access your account, post spam on your news feed, and ask for personal information.

The scams follow an official announcement by Facebook;

“GET NEWLY INTRODUCED FACEBOOK DISLIKE BUTTON ON YOUR PROFILE.”

After gaining your permission to view your account details and to post to your timeline, the scammers then ask for more personal information through surveys. This information can be used for identity theft, and the access to your account can be used to spread the scam, post spam, and otherwise collect information about you.

As and when additional options to interact with content on Facebook are made available, they will be released and made available on Facebook without the need to provide additional information, or click on links.

If you receive an offer through Facebook, you can report it as spam. Do not talk to the scammer in any capacity and do not click on any link they provide.
