Shepparton successful with waste grants

Greater Shepparton has been awarded two grants totaling $20,000 from Sustainability Victoria under the Victorian Litter Plan.

Greater Shepparton City Council and RiverConnect, in partnership with Parks Victoria, Goulburn Valley Water and Shepparton Show Me Committee, received two grants each worth $10,000. The projects will fund cameras to catch people illegally dumping rubbish, and education campaigns to help communities take action to reduce littering and illegal dumping.

Greater Shepparton City Council Acting Director Sustainable Development Greg McKenzie said “these projects are a great example of how Council is working together with other agencies and the community to reduce littering and illegal dumping of waste within our region.

“Our aim is to reduce illegal dumping of rubbish in our waterways, river systems, parks and gardens so they can be continually enjoyed by residents. The first project will involve purchasing and installing cameras at green spaces and placing them at hot spots within our region.

“The second project is about engaging the community about littering our waterways. Working together, we will create educational material that will be installed on bins within the Shepparton CBD and Victoria Park Lake,” said Mr McKenzie.

Greater Shepparton City Council was one of six councils to receive the Sustainability Victoria Grant.
