Goulburn Valley Water has cancelled the Boil Water notice for the township of Tatura. GVW’s independent test laboratory confirmed that results of testing the Tatura water supply over the last two days have showed no evidence of E coli present in the Tatura reticulation system.
GVW acted promptly on Wednesday to issue the Boil Water Notice for Tatura customers and initiated a widespread investigation of any potential source of contamination of the Tatura water supply. Goulburn Valley Water’s priority throughout this event has been to ensure the health of all of its customers.
GVW has worked with Department of Health and Human Services to systematically investigate the entire drinking water system in Tatura. GVW have confidence in the quality we are supplying.
As part of its investigations, GVW inspected and tested the treatment processes and found no faults or malfunctions. Scuba divers also inspected Tatura’s treated water tanks and confirmed there was no source of contamination. The reticulated supply has been fully flushed. No source of contamination was identified during these procedures.
GVW General Manager – Technical Services, Mr Steve McKenzie, said that "Investigations have confirmed that the water is safe. It was essential that GVW adopt a cautious approach throughout the incident for the safety and health of its customers."
GVW advises that Tatura customers can be assured that the water is safe for all drinking, washing and food preparation purposes.
Goulburn Valley Water would like to thank a number of local businesses who have provided bottled water and equipment during the incident. Special thanks are extended to our customers for their patience and understanding during the last three days.
Customers are welcome to provide feedback to GVW on our performance during this incident at: mail@gvwater.vic.gov.au
