Works to increase the bridge strength started in May this year. The bridge limit, which had been 2 tonne, has now been increased to 9 tonne.
The costs of the works totalled $1.6M, which was partly funded under the Fixing Country Roads Grant from the State Government through Regional Roads Victoria.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to Greater Shepparton residents and in particular the Toolamba community for their patience and cooperation while these important works were undertaken,” Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said.
“While the scope of the work was greater than originally anticipated, we are pleased to have the bridge reopened prior to Christmas as planned.
“The bridge provides an important link across the Goulburn River and these improvements will ensure safer travel throughout the region over the Christmas period and beyond.”
Works included:
- Upgrades to the bridge deck
- Replacement and upgrading of the guard railing
- Repair or replacement of most of the below deck structural components
- Anchoring of the bridge abutment at the Toolamba end
