Traffic count done for Welsford Street upgrade

Greater Shepparton City Council has been conducting road traffic counts as part of the planning for the proposed works to upgrade Welsford Street, Shepparton.

As part of the ongoing road upgrade design, Council has engaged traffic engineering consultants to undertake a local area traffic study in the areas surrounding Welsford Street.

A number of cameras were temporarily installed on 13 and 14 October at several intersections in the area. These cameras were installed to provide traffic count and traffic movement data to be used for investigation and design purposes.

A detailed design is currently well underway for the following works:

  • The proposed reconstruction of the existing Welsford Street pavement* (from Nixon Street to Knight Street).
  • The proposed reconstruction of the existing Knight Street pavement (from Welsford Street to Wyndham Street).
  • The implementation of new drainage infrastructure along Welsford Street (from Nixon Street to Knight Street)

The detailed design will also include the investigation of possible upgrades to the Welsford Street/Nixon Street intersection and the Welsford Street/Knight Street intersection to improve traffic movements.

It is proposed that Stage 1 of the Welsford Street reconstruction from Nixon Street to Knight Street will be constructed in the 2016/2017 financial year. The remaining stages will be completed in subsequent years.
