Council congratulates successful applicants of the Greater Shepparton Heritage Grants Program for 2019/2020

Greater Shepparton City Council approved 14 Heritage Grants to support conservation works for significant buildings in the Heritage Overlay in Moorilim, Mooroopna, Murchison, Shepparton, Tatura and Zeerust at the October Ordinary Council Meeting.

The Heritage Grant program was launched in 2017, in association with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, to promote conservation works that improve the physical security or appearance of a place, while being respectful of its significance.

It is the first program of its kind to be undertaken independently by a Council in regional Victoria. Following the success of the 2017/2018 and 2018/19 grant rounds, Council expanded the program’s budget for 2019/2020.

Council received 47 applications between 22 July and 9 September 2019, which is the highest number of applications received since the program began.

In accordance with the Heritage Grants Guidelines, a judging panel was formed to assess the applications and provide recommendations to Council. Eligible works included conservation, restoration and reconstruction.

“Council thanks all the applicants for their efforts in the preparation of their applications, and for their work to enhance, protect and conserve these significant buildings across the municipality,” Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said.

“Some of the works awarded this year include repainting, brick repairs, and verandah and roof restoration. Congratulations to all of the successful applicants.”

Enquiries regarding feedback on applications may be directed to the Council’s Building and Planning Department on 03 5832 9730.
