Greater Shepparton City Council has awarded contracts for two major road reconstruction projects to be undertaken in the coming months.
Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd were awarded the $2.6m contract to undertake the reconstruction of Welsford Street Stages 1 and 2. The first stage will see works undertaken between Nixon and Knight Street, while Stage two will see works carried out to change the Welsford St and Nixon Street intersection to a signalised intersection.
Jarvis Delahey Contractors Pty Ltd were awarded the $1.7m contract for the third stage of the Verney Road reconstruction, between Graham Street and Elm Terrace. NL Drainage were awarded the $583,000 contract for works associated with the GV Water main reticulation.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Steve Bowmaker said works on both projects would start in the coming weeks.
“There will be detours in place and we acknowledge there will be delays to traffic. We ask that people be patient and comply with all traffic management signage through these areas,” Mr Bowmaker said.
“In the long term, these road upgrades will mean better traffic flow entering Shepparton from the north and for people travelling through the CBD.
“I encourage people who want to find out more to attend the information session for Verney Road or drop in session for Welsford Street. Information and updates will also be available on our website as works progress.”
Community information sessions will be held for both projects, to allow people to find more detail.
