Council makes submission to Community Energy Projects Inquiry

Greater Shepparton City Council has provided a submission to the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into Community Energy Projects.

Council’s submission calls for the rules and regulations that currently govern the energy market to be lessened to allow more community energy projects to be developed.

Greater Shepparton Mayor, Cr Dinny Adem said the submission was endorsed by Council at its December meeting.

“This is a conversation that needed to happen to ensure all members of our community can be part of the response to climate change, regardless of their socio-economic position,” Cr Adem said.

“Council’s submission outlined the benefits of community owned energy projects, how to engage community members in community energy projects as well as the potential role of cooperatives, social enterprises and community ownership in the energy sector.”
