Council reaffirms commitment to introducing hard waste collection

Greater Shepparton City Council has endorsed an updated timeline for hard waste collection services at its June Council Meeting.

The previous procurement process for a hard waste collection service was formally abandoned after it was determined the outcome did not meet the competitive tendering requirements necessary to award a long-term contract.

Council will now undertake a new tender process for this service, with a revised commencement date for the 2027/28 financial year.

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the decision to extend the timeline reflects Council’s commitment to delivering the service while ensuring best value for money.

“This decision allows more time for Council to undertake a robust and competitive tender process, ensuring that the contract not only delivers an essential service to residents but also represents a financially responsible outcome,” he said.

“The community has been clear that they want a hard waste collection service, which is why we remain committed to introducing this important service. This updated timeline will give us the confidence to deliver a reliable, efficient and affordable outcome for the community.”

Council continues to monitor market conditions, engage with industry and refine service specifications to support a successful procurement outcome.

“We want this service to be fit-for-purpose well into the future. Taking the time to get this right ensures we deliver a sustainable and responsible service that meets the needs of our community for years to come,” Cr Sali said.

Further updates will be shared with the community as the procurement process progresses.
