Greater Shepparton City Council is tracking positively against its Council Plan 2021-2025, with a report noted by Councillors at Tuesday’s Council Meeting.
The Progress Report outlined that 73 out of 81 key performance indicators were on track at the end of the second year of the Council Plan, which is a positive result considering the tough 12 months faced by Council and the region.
The Council Plan includes the strategic objectives that influence the priorities of the Council during the current term in office, and guides the decision making and allocation of resources to deliver outcomes and services to the community.
In establishing the Council Plan, community consultation and engagement was undertaken to help identify five themes for Council to work towards, including Community Leadership, Social Responsibility and Wellbeing, Vibrant and Diverse Economy, Infrastructure and Technology, and Environment and Climate Emergency. The Progress Report outlines how each performance measure is tracking under the five themes and is used to realign work and actions for Council for the following year.
Of the performance measures outlined, the ones which are tracking the highest include Council working in partnership with the youth sector, increased participation of First Nations and non-First Nations community members, relationships with the multicultural community, the success of the Community Connector Program, and the number of new investments and businesses supported by Council.
Council continues to work on investigation into an innovative public transport trial, implementation of the Annual Capital Budget, securing funding for Stage One of the Goulburn Valley Highway Shepparton Bypass, and the percentage of tree canopy cover across the region.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said Council was pleased with the overall results for the 2022/2023 financial year.
“The past year was extremely tough for the entire region, with many hurdles experienced along the way. For Council to be tracking well, despite this, is a great achievement,” he said.
“Council is committed to achieving all of the actions outlined under the five themes of the Council Plan and further work will now be undertaken to ensure all performance measures are tracking positively.
“These Progress Reports are an important step in the reporting process and allow Council to assess and review what needs to be done.”
