Cultural Diversity Week 2018

Cultural Diversity Week is Victoria’s biggest week for celebrating multiculturalism and is now in its 16th year. The theme for 2018 is ‘Proud to Belong’ which is about exploring the rich sense of belonging and acknowledging the journeys of new citizens as well.

This year Cultural Diversity Week commences on Saturday 17 March to Sunday 25 March and there are a number of events throughout the week to celebrate, acknowledge and learn.  Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with Shepparton Festival, kicks off the week with Converge on Saturday 17 March at Victoria Park Lake.

Council in partnership with 19 organisations will have a launch event on Monday 19 March at KidsTown from 10:00am. The event will include performances from local Aboriginal dancers and students from the Shepparton English Language Centre singing the National Anthem.  There will also be a morning tea and a number of activities from sport to craft.

Council is also partnering with Hijack’d, Ethnic Council Shepparton & District and Moroccan Deli-Cacy for a Speed Date a Muslim session to be held on Thursday 22 March in the Queen’s Gardens.  This session is not a regular speed dating session but an opportunity, in a safe environment, to ask Muslim women about their faith and culture and to learn something new about someone in your community.

There are a number of events throughout the week including short film night, BBQs, festivals and sporting events that will continue the sharing and embracing of our richly diverse community.
