Katandra West Community Centre work begins

Greater Shepparton City Council will begin construction work on a new Katandra West Community Centre to replace the old building next week.

The new Katandra West Community Centre will include a community meeting room, commercial kitchen, bar, function room, umpire change rooms, female change rooms and toilets.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem said “Council has been working with the local Katandra West community to ensure this project gets off the ground. The new Centre will benefit a number of residents and user groups including Katandra Kats Football and Netball Club, local cricket and tennis clubs, the Country Women’s Association, the CFA, Girl Guides and Katandra West Primary School.”

“The new centre will become the hub for the Katandra West community,” said Cr Adem.

“This is great news for the community who have been working really hard to ensure this new Centre would proceed. The new Centre will be a great facility to host functions for 250 people seated and more standing. They will be able to host a number of functions including community meetings, weddings, parties and conferences to name a few,” said Cr Adem.

Construction will commence by local building company GL & DC Marshall Pty Ltd next week and is due to be completed by late August, dependant on weather conditions.

The new building will cost $1.4 million, with the State Government’s Regional Development Victoria fund contributing $500,000, Greater Shepparton City Council contributing $750,000 and Katandra West Community Facilities Committee of Management fundraising $150,000 towards the project.
