The new Katandra West Community Centre is on track for completion at the end of August with internal works well underway and external works expected to be completed on time despite delays due to wet weather.
Greater Shepparton City Council Project Manager Kyle Pearson says the project contractors are completing internal fit-outs and ventilation systems but outside concreting has been hampered by the amount of rain experienced over the last month.
“Apart from the delays with concreting everything else is going well,’ said Mr Pearson. “We would like to invite the Katandra West community and anyone else interested to come along and have a look at the works on Sunday 24 July from 9.30 to 11.30am. It’s a great opportunity to see how the project is progressing,” said Mr Pearson.
The new building will cost $1.4 million, with the State Government’s Regional Development Victoria fund contributing $500,000, Greater Shepparton City Council contributing $800,000 and Katandra West Community Facilities Committee of Management fundraising $100,000 towards the project.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem said “once the new Centre is completed it will benefit a number of residents and user groups including Katandra Kats Football and Netball Club, local cricket and tennis clubs, the Country Women’s Association, the CFA, Girl Guides and Katandra West Primary School.”
The new Katandra West Community Centre will include a community meeting room, commercial kitchen, bar, function room, umpire change rooms, female change rooms and toilets.
The Katandra West community are working on fundraising efforts for a number of items for the new Centre. These include, but are not limited to a security system, commercial kitchen equipment, and new furniture for functions. So if you know of any local businesses or community members that would like to assist with the Katandra West Community Centre please contact David Whelan on 0428 340 285.
