Greater Shepparton City Council is proud to announce the successful delivery of the 2026 Country Week tennis tournament, which saw an estimated $4 million boost to the region’s visitor economy.
In Summary
Council partnered with Tennis Victoria, Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club and Mooroopna Lawn Tennis Club to host the event, which is the largest lawn tennis competition in the world.
The tournament delivered a significant economic boost to Greater Shepparton’s visitor economy, directly supporting the region’s hospitality and retail sectors. The event attracts more than 1,400 participants from across Victoria, interstate and internationally.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the tournament showcases the best of Greater Shepparton.
Tennis Victoria President, Jacqui Pirone, thanked Council and residents for strongly supporting this year’s event.
“We have worked closely with Council and both local Clubs to deliver an exceptional experience for players, volunteers and spectators. We are proud to have delivered the largest edition of Country Week to date, and we are grateful for the warm welcome from the Greater Shepparton community,” she said.
This year’s tournament utilised 108 courts, including 22 in Shepparton, 10 in Mooroopna and an additional 76 temporary courts at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve, established by Council’s Parks, Sport and Recreation team.
“Our region is the major events capital of regional Australia. Country Week is only just the beginning of a massive 12 months for major events within Greater Shepparton,” Cr Sali said.
Greater Shepparton will host several new major national sporting events throughout 2026, including the AusCycling BMX Racing National Championships, Ultimate Frisbee National Championships and the Motorcycle Australia National Motocross Championships. This will also be further enhanced by the Shepparton Art Museum hosting two blockbuster exhibitions providing significant opportunities to showcase the region increasing visitation, supporting local business and profiling Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley as a must see destination
