Look who's joined the team!

New apprentices began work at Greater Shepparton City Council in the Recreation and Parks team recently undertaking Conservation Land & Management, Landscape Construction, Horticulture or Sports Turf Management Apprenticeships.

The four new apprentices have been taken under the wings of Heath Chasemore and Katie Wallace who are both now in senior roles at council after beginning as apprentices nearly 20 years ago and working their way through the ranks of council.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Steve Bowmaker said “we are really excited having four new apprentices begin with the team at Council and we will also have more apprenticeship roles available in the Transport & Road Reserve team with three Civil Construction Apprentice postions opening last Friday, once we receive the applications for these postions we will host an open day on the 24 and 25 September.”

“Council understands we have a number of great people locally that would like to gain the experience and qualifications, whether that be in the recreation and parks team or in the works teams. The apprentices have started at council in their roles while being guided by our staff members who have worked at council for more than twenty years”.

“It is a great way for the apprentices to learn from people that have been in the roles for many years and who have significant experience in the horticultural team at Council.

“The apprentices will gain significant hands on experience as well as undertake formal study in order to receive their certificates.

“Council has a variety of options available for new apprentices to come on board and more importantly once they are fully qualified, they have a range of career progression opportunities available” said Mr Bowmaker.
