New Historical Flood Markers

Historical Flood Markers, the Murchison Flood Guide and an Emergency Toolkit will be launched Wednesday 21 May as part of FloodSafe Week on the banks of the Goulburn River in Murchison.

Greater Shepparton City Council, SES, Goulburn Broken CMA, RiverConnect, Department of Environment and Primary Industries, Victoria Police, CFA, Ambulance Victoria and Red Cross have partnered to produce the Historical Flood Markers, Flood Guide and Emergency Toolkit.

Mayor Jenny Houlihan said “the Flood Markers are a great community education tool, by creating awareness of the previous flood levels, helping residents understand flood risk living close to rivers. The Flood Markers, Flood Guide and Emergency Toolkit were developed in response to community demand eight months ago.”

“The Flood Markers include a QR code so that when residents use the QR code they can access a wide variety of historical flood information and the most current emergency information available at the time,” said Cr Jenny Houlihan.

The Flood Markers have been installed in four locations:

·         Viewing Platform – Murchison

·         Dainton’s Bridge – Shepparton

·         Chinaman’s Garden – Mooroopna

·         Jackson’s Park – Kialla

The Murchison Flood Guide is one of a number of town guides being developed across Greater Shepparton. These give an overview of how flood waters move through specific areas, information about flood warning and tips on how to prepare for a flood.

Flood Guides can be obtained from SES.

Emergency Tool kits can be obtained through Council offices or call 5832 9700.
