Greater Shepparton City Council supported playgroups are now being delivered virtually.
Since the introduction of restrictions in March, the supported playgroups have been working hard to continue to meet the needs of children and parents/carers, while navigating the challenges of online delivery.
Playgroups are a great way for parents and carers of children under school age to come together on a weekly basis to enjoy play activities, socialise and chat. Children learn important and beneficial skills that support their language, physical, social and emotional development, while adults find connection by chatting with other parents or carers.
Greater Shepparton City Council runs seven supported playgroups, all of which are currently operating online through different platforms.
Playgroup Facilitator Jenny Wileman has enjoyed the opportunity to try something new, through Zoom sessions and YouTube clips, to keep families engaged and supported during these tough times.
“It’s been a great to see how our playgroup families have embraced our Zoom sessions, as well as our YouTube videos, which include twice weekly story times, rhyme time and play activity videos.”
“We’ve had an absolute ball, especially during our interactive Zoom sessions. We’ve been singing, dancing and learning more about each other, it’s been a lot of fun. It has brought us all so much joy, especially during these challenging times we are currently facing.”
“We hope to be able to return to face to face delivery at some stage in term 4, but in the meantime, the Zoom sessions will continue. It’s great to see all the happy, smiling faces on the screen each week,” says Mrs Wileman.
If you would like more information about the supported playgroups offered by Council, or any of the playgroups operating across Greater Shepparton please visit www.greatershepparton.com.au or contact Belinda Whitelaw on 03 5832 9790.
