Second Inland Rail forum held at Shepparton

Greater Shepparton City Council and the Committee for Greater Shepparton hosted a second Inland Rail Forum yesterday at the council offices.

With Australian Rail Track Corporation still recommending the Albury Wagga alignment, the argument for a second route, the Foodbowl route, is still strongly supported.

Some wins for the Foodbowl Inland Route Alliance included the Federal government agreeing to market testing for private sector interest and the standardisation of parts of the existing fright line including Shepparton.

Current and future volumes of agricultural commodities production in this area needing quick transport to domestic and export market continues to outweigh the volumes to be transported on the Albury Wagga line.

Key speakers yesterday continued to support the Foodbowl route included Mayor of Greater Shepparton - Dinny Adem, Cameron Jackson - Ettamogah Rail Hub and Judy Charlton, Narrandera Shire Council CEO representing the Murrumbidgee Food Bowl.
