A Total Fire Ban has been declared for Friday 9 January 2026 for the North Central district, which includes Greater Shepparton. No fires can be lit or allowed to remain alight in the open air.
A Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating has also been declared for the district. This signals the worst possible grass and bushfire conditions.
To be best prepared, consider the following:
Wear light, loose clothing, drink plenty of water, and close windows and blinds early to keep heat out.
Check your Fire Danger Rating and understand what actions to take if a fire starts: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/fdr
Monitor warnings at emergency.vic.gov.au, download the VicEmergency app, or call the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226. If you don't speak English, call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450.
