WORKS UPDATE: Victoria Park Lake North Lawn - Shepparton

Council will begin works to improve the turf coverage at the Northern end of Victoria Park Lake.

These works will commence 6am Tuesday December 1, taking around 4 hours to complete.

The area will remain moist for the next 6-8 weeks (depending on weather conditions) but it will still be accessible to the public.

Council are looking to in-line plant, or transplant existing grass to increase the turf area, this turf will be better for the area long term.

 Works Update fast facts:

  • The current turf needs renewing as it was an old bowling green and is currently hydrophobic (can't take up water) and nutrient deficient. We will be adding some extra organic matter to alleviate this issue.
  • The new turf will be kikuyu – a warm season variety that will decrease water costs in the future.
  • Council will harvest the kikuyu sprigs from the Victoria Park Lake site so we don’t import any foreign material.
