Greater Shepparton City Council celebrated the creativity and skills of local young people at the recent Youth Talent Show, which brought colour, music and energy to the Winter City Market on Saturday 30 August at the Maude Street Precinct in Shepparton.
The event is an initiative developed by Council and its Greater Shepparton Youth Committee, supported by the Victorian Government’s Amplify Program. The Greater Shepparton Youth Committee took on the role of judges, recognising the efforts of every participant and selecting winners across the three age groups.
Across the three-hour program, 15 young people performed 18 acts, with around 120 people gathering nearby to cheer them on and contribute to a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
Performances came from a wide mix of socio-cultural backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of Greater Shepparton. This included participants from different cultural backgrounds and young people of all abilities proudly showcasing their talents.
Council would like to congratulate each of the participants, including the below winners:
Each winner received a gift voucher in recognition of their achievement.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the talent show was a wonderful display of the skills and spirit of the region’s young people.
“This event was a chance for young people to step onto the stage and show us their incredible range of talents. Council is proud to provide opportunities where all young people, no matter their background or ability, can be celebrated and supported,” he said.
The Youth Talent Show was part of Council’s commitment to creating spaces for young people to participate, express themselves and connect with the wider community.
Council’s Acting Director Community, Stacey East, said the Youth Committee’s involvement was a key strength of the event.
“It was fantastic to see the Greater Shepparton Youth Committee leading this initiative, from planning through to judging. Their leadership shows how important it is to provide young people with real opportunities to shape events and celebrate their peers,” she said.
Amplify Youth Committee member Noor Mgoter, said being involved in the event was an exciting opportunity to support other young people.
“It was inspiring to see so many performers give it their all and share their talents with the community. As a committee, we were proud to encourage them, celebrate their efforts and play a role in giving young people a platform to shine,” she said.
Council looks forward to continuing to support initiatives that celebrate the achievements of local young people and provide opportunities for their voices to be heard.
