Immunisation

Council provides a regular immunisation service in various locations around Greater Shepparton. Childhood immunisation is free if you have a Medicare card and is available almost every week at various locations throughout Greater Shepparton. The immunisation service visits secondary schools to provide scheduled vaccinations to Year 7 students.

Maternal and Child Health

The Maternal and Child Health service is free and available to all families with children aged 0 to 6. The service aims to promote the health and wellbeing of children and provide information and support for breastfeeding, child health and development, nutrition and childhood illnesses.

Families with children who were born overseas are also able to access the Maternal and Child Health service – interpreters are able to be provided if necessary and initial assistance in the form of home visits is also available.

Childcare

Greater Shepparton City Council operates a number of children’s services and a range of early childhood education, care and health programs to families with children. These include:

  • Occasional Care Child Care for care for children aged 0-6 years.
  • Family Day Care for home based childcare with flexible hours.
  • Long Day Care Centres provide education and care for children aged 0-6 years full-time, part-time or on a casual basis.
  • Kindergarten is a one-year program in the year prior to school entry.

Libraries

The Goulburn Valley Regional Library offers a free library service at three locations and a mobile library. We also have an extensive collection of books and newspapers in languages other than English that you can borrow for free, or read in the library. There are books for children, novels, essays, dictionaries, search books, magazines, and books for young people. You can also use the internet for free at our libraries. Membership is free and registration gives you access to the three libraries in Greater Shepparton.

Services for the elderly and disabled persons

Greater Shepparton City Council offers a range of support to assist eligible people who are frail, aged or younger persons with disabilities, and their carers to remain living at home.

Gyms and swimming pools

Recreation centres offer gym facilities, indoor and outdoor pool/s and children’s Splash Park. Some of them offer a number of services that assist people with disabilities to use the centres.
